Department of Biotechnology and Environmental Chemistry
Fostering the next generation of biotechnology, environmental and food engineers
With chemistry as the base, the Department of Biotechnology and Environmental Chemistry aims to develop human resources capable of working in the fields of biotechnology, environment and food. We have established courses in biotechnology and food chemistry as well as environmental chemistry. Both courses provide high-level educational research and high problem-solving skills for students, training them to become engineers and researchers who can contribute to the sustainable development of society. Moreover, in cooperation with local communities, we promote research of international standards making use of the rich resources of agriculture, forestry and fisheries of Hokkaido.
Biotechnology and Food Chemistry Course
This course fosters the next generation of talented persons in the field of biotechnology and food chemistry who contribute to the region. Students start with basic subjects, such as biotechnology, food science or biochemistry before learning about functional chemicals using resources of agriculture, forestry and fisheries of Hokkaido. They receive a broad education leading to development and will lear how to systematically perform research work for graduation.
Environmental Chemistry Course
This course aims to foster open-minded chemical engineers who are able to tackle environmental issues or contribute to building a recycling society. Students will study environmental chemistry, biomass utilization, waste recycling, processing technology and more.
