Dealing with the improvement and maintenance of the social infrastructure as well as the development and conservation of the environment with regard to humanity

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering conducts education incorporating the needs of society with regard to environmental conservation and disaster prevention as well as operation and maintenance of social infrastructure while at the same time leveraging the university’s distinctive features originating in its location in a cold region with an amazing natural environment.

Civil Engineering Course

In this course, students will acquire the necessary expertise for the improvement, maintenance and operation as well as preservation of social infrastructure systems, such as roads, rivers and urban spaces not only in temperate regions, but also in cold regions. The course also provides education on civil constructions that withstand hazardous earthquake, snow or ice exposures.

Environmental System Course

In this course, students will learn about the conservation of the natural environment of the Okhotsk region, an area blessed with rich nature, including the Shiretoko World Natural Heritage site. The course also provides education about global environmental protection through the skills and expertise of the faculty in the field of snow and ice research, who conduct environmental research in polar regions, including Antarctica.
