International undergraduate and graduate students funded by the Japanese government (MEXT: Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) or the governments of the following 6 countries (Malaysia, Indonesia,Thailand, Singapore, Kuwait, and United Arab Emirates) are admitted without entrance examinations. These students are exempt from screening fee, entrance fee, and annual tuition.

1) Undergraduates

1. Requirements

Applicants must have a nationality other than Japanese. In addition, one of the following requirements has to be met for application:

1. To have twelve years of education outside Japan (or to be completed by the end of next March), or to possess an alternative qualification admitted by Monbukagakusho
2. To possess an International Baccalaureate Diploma issued by the International Baccalaureate Office, and to be 18 years of age or over by the end of next March
3. To possess the Federal Republic of Germany's Abitur Diploma, and to be 18 years of age or over by the end of next March
4. To possess a Baccalaureate Diploma issued by France, and to be 18 years of age or over by the end of next March


2. Application

Applicants must take Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) administered by Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO). EJU is held in June and November in Japan and other countries.
A result of EJU taken within the past two years, chosen by the applicant, is used for the admission process.

   1. Japanese as a Foreign Language
   2. Mathematics : Course 2
   3. Science: Physics and Chemistry


2. The tests can be taken in either English or Japanese.

Admission to KIT is based on the results of Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU), a recommendation letter, and a school report.

2) Master's program

1. Non-Japanese nationals who meet one of the following qualifications by the end of March 2010 are eligible for application:


1. To have graduated from a university
2. To have been awarded a bachelors degree by the National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation (NIAD-UE)
3. *To have completed 16 years of schooling overseas
4. To have completed a postsecondary course of a specialized training college admitted by MEXT
5. **To have been recognized by the Graduate School of Kitami Institute of Technology, through eligibility judgment, as having equal to higher academic ability than those who have graduated from a university or college, and to be at least 22 years of age
   *Those who have completed an e-Learning course by an overseas university or a campus of overseas university in Japan may be eligible. See application guidelines for details.
   **Those who apply for an eligibility judgment (qualification6) must contact the KIT admission division in advance.



2. Entrance Examination

The examination is held twice a year: August and February. Applicants have an option of coming to Japan as a research student for up to 1 year before starting to the master's program. Admission is in April or October.
Applicants with a foreign nationality who have graduated or will be graduating from Japanese universities will take the general entrance examination, not the exams for international students.  Please see the Japanese page for information.

3) Doctoral program

1. Those who meet one of the following qualifications by the end of March 2010 are eligible for application:


1. To possess a master's degree or a professional degree
2. *To possess an academic degree comparable to a master's degree or a professional degree from an accredited institution outside in Japan
3. **To have been recognized by the Graduate School of Kitami Institute of Technology, through eligibility judgment, as having equal to or higher academic ability than those who possess a master's degree or a professional degree, and to be at least 24 years of age
   *Those who have completed an e-Learning course by an overseas university or a campus of overseas university in Japan may be eligible. See application guidelines for details.
   **In case of 3 or 4, applicants must contact the admission division in advance
   
   
2. Entrance Examination

Examination (interview) is held twice a year: August and February. Admission is in April or October
