3. History
April, 1960 Kitami Junior College of Technology (Mechanical Course and Applied Chemistry Course) was established in accordance with the National School Establishment Law.
April, 1962 The Electrical Course was established.
April, 1965 The Civil Course was established.
April, 1966 Kitami Institute of Technology (Departments of Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering and of Industrial Chemistry and General Education) was established in accordance with the National School Establishment Law.
June, 1967 Kitami Junior College of Technology was abolished.
April, 1970 The Department of Developmental Engineering was established.
April, 1973 The Department of Electronic Engineering was established.
April, 1976 The Department of Environmental Engineering and the post-graduate Courses in Engineering were established.
April, 1979 The Department of Applied Mechanical Engineering was established.
April, 1984 The Graduate school of Engineering Master's Program (The Course of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Chemical Environmental Engineering and Developmental Engineering) was established in accordance with the National School Establishment Law. 33 fields of study were altered into 33 chairs.
April, 1990

The Department of Information Engineering was established.

April, 1992

The Cooperative Research Center was established.

April, 1993 The nine departments were reorganized as the Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Applied and Environmental Chemistry, Material Science, Civil Engineering and Common Courses (Human Sciences).
April, 1994 The Course of Information Engineering was established.
April, 1995 International Student Center was established. The Department of Information Engineering and Common Courses (Engineering Mathematics) were reorganized as The Department of Computer Sciences.
April, 1996 Exchange agreement with Wuhan University of Science and Technology (China), Samchok National University (Korea), Yeungnam University, College of Engineering (Korea) and Gyeong Sang National University,College of Engineering (Korea).
April, 1997 The Graduate School of Engineering Master's Program was reorganized as Master's Program (The course of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical System Engineering, Materials Science and Civil Engineering) and Doctoral Program (The courses of System Engineering and Material Engineering). Exchange agreement with Harbin Engineering University (China), Oulu Institute of Technology, Vaasa Institute of Technology, Tampere University of Technology (Finland).
April, 1999 The Instrumental Analysis Center was established.
May, 1999 Exchange agreement with Cracow University of Technology (Poland).
Jan, 2000 Exchange agreement with Mongolian Technical University (Mongolia).
April, 2000 Exchange agreement with Northeast China Institute of Electric Power Engineering (China).
April, 2001 The New Energy Resources Research Center was established.
June, 2001 Exchange agreement with Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (U.S.A).
March, 2002 Exchange agreement with Northeast Forestry University (China) and University of Dhaka (Bangladesh).
March, 2002 The Satellite Venture Business Laboratory was established. National University Corporation Kitami Institute of Technology was established.
April, 2004 National University Corporation Kitami Institute of Technology was established. The Liaison Office, Management Section for Intellectual Property and International Center was established.
July, 2006 The Innovative Manufacturing Center for Education and Research was established
April, 2008 The Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Sciences, Applied and Environmental Chemistry, Materials Science and Civil Engineering were reorganized as The Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Biotechnology and Environmental Chemistry and Materials Science and Engineering.
